Quote of the month

“We will act consistently with our view of who we truly are, whether that view is accurate or not.”
~ Anthony Robbins

Take AIM principle of the month

The Take AIM system for optimal performance came from working with athletes and business professionals who were seeking improved performance. What I found was that these individuals had the “physical skills” to perform at the highest level; they lacked the mental and emotional skills to apply their skills under pressure.

Each month I will introduce you to the key principles of the Take AIM system. This month we are going to cover Implement new beliefs. Last month I wrote about the importance of beliefs in how we perform. This newsletter I want to provide simple ways to implement new beliefs in your day to day life. Implementation is basically training you to change disempowering beliefs into empowering beliefs.
We can train new beliefs in different ways:

  1. Become aware of internal chatter (self talk) and switch it to positive statements. Switch- ‘I always mess up when I play tournament golf ‘ to ‘This is going to be fun to play today in this environment’.
  2. Visualize yourself with the new beliefs. How would you feel if you already possessed the empowering beliefs? Really see and feel yourself with the new belief. How would you stand, talk, move, and interact with others with this new empowering belief?
  3. Tell others to listen for negative talk. Share with a couple of supportive people your intention to change beliefs. Tell them the beliefs that are getting in the way of achieving your goals. When others know your goals, they can help you stay accountable to your training.
  4. Put it to the test. Do something that in the past has triggered negative beliefs, i.e. playing in a golf tournament or giving a speech. Write out a script of the empowering beliefs you want before you perform. The script is a form of affirmations which keeps your focus on what you want instead of what to don’t want.

Implementing new beliefs is about consistent training. It does take awhile to change negative beliefs that you have had for years. The goal is to start and utilize different methods to accelerate your progress. To achieve your goals you need to improve your process on a day to day basis. Start today implementing new empowering beliefs and watch your performance improve.
