Take AIM principle of the month

The Take AIM system for optimal performance came from working with athletes and business professionals who were seeking improved performance. What I found was that these individuals had the “physical skills” to perform at the highest level; they lacked the mental and emotional skills to apply their skills under pressure.

Each month I will introduce you to the key principles of the Take AIM system. This month we are going to cover Mastering new beliefs. Last month I wrote about how to implement new empowering beliefs. To be a peak performer you must master the skills so no matter the situation the skill is executed.

Mastering any skill requires a time of learning in a closed environment. With beliefs that is doing affirmations away from the place of performance. Learning requires conscious repetition until it becomes unconscious. When you don’t have to think about it, you have it. As you begin to learn the skill you must test it to make sure you really own the skill. This test may be doing a presentation in front of your boss or playing in a golf tournament. When pressure is applied people tend to revert back to old habits.

Part of mastering the new beliefs is being aware of what “pops up” when pressure is applied. It could be inner self-talk or how you feel emotionally. If you realize that when you feel the pressure you are calm, confident, and ready than you have mastered the new beliefs. Mastering any skill requires repetition in various situations before you own it. Awareness is your guide to what needs to be worked on and training is how it gets done. Training is the consistent work of affirmations, positive self-talk, and positive imagery in pressure situations. This training will form the new habits for optimal performance.
